Professional Development Plan Evidence: Excel Budget

This is a screen shot of the budget that I made regarding my monthly budget. This budget includes my income ad both necessary and discretionary spending. Learning how to utilize Microsoft Excel was difficult, because I have had almost no practice with the program. However, with the help of my brother, the TTL, and a budget template, I was able to create a detailed Excel spreadsheet that will better allow me to keep track of my income and spending. Creating this spreadsheet was an excellent learning experience for me. I was forced to ask for help and to make mistakes when learning this new program. This skill will be useful as I will be able to keep track of any discretionary funds I receive through the school or from grants that I could apply for. This may also help me keep track of student information as well. Overall, learning how to use Microsoft Excel will benefit me as a teacher.

Professional Development Plan Evidence: Inserting Video Clips into Slide Shows/Movies

This is an example of how I met one of my Professional Development Plan goals, inserting a video clip into a slide show or movie. I was able to accomplish this through a number of methods. The first resource I utilized was a friend of mine, however we were unable to effectively insert the movie and publish it. I was able to resolve this issue by visiting the TTL. There, I was able to clearly understand how to effectively insert a video clip into a movie or slide show. This will be very useful as it will allow me to make slide shows more interesting to students. It will also allow me to show parents what their student is doing in class. This could occur if I were to make a slide show of pictures for an open house. Parents could then see photos as well as video clips, allowing them to have a good feel for what their child is learning. Overall, learning how to utilize these video clips and put them into a different program was a very productive experience.

Professional Development Plan Evidence: Editing Photos

On the bottom is the originial photo of my brothers and I. On top of that photo is its edited counterpart. The changes that I made to the photo were cropping it so that our faces were centered, adjusting the lighting by giving us a "cartoon look," and adding text which reads, "Surprise Visit for Matt Pagano in Lexington, VA." As can be seen by the difference between these two photos, I was able to accomplish my goals of learning how to properly edit photos with regard to their lighting and cropping. I was able to accomplish this task by asking my friend to explain how photo editing software works and by then practicing with that software. Overall it was an excellent learning experience. I will be able to use this knowledge in the classroom when editing photos of classroom activities, field trips, etc. It will allow me to show parents and my peers how I manage a classroom.

Communicating with Parents & Students

In order to effectively communicate with both my students and their parents, Twitter would be an excellent tool to utilize. This is an excellent tool because it will allow me to update others on assignments, field trips, etc. Another advantage Twitter has is that it allows me to make updates from my cell phone, so that I will be able to update my students from almost anywhere. Professionally, this is an excellent tool because it is age appropriate for students and my current professors recommend it as a useful, and professional tool. Twitter is also easy to access, as anyone with the internet can see it, so parents will be able to see it when at work. Students will also be able to see it during school and when they go home.
Twitter allows me to address a number of my responsibilities as a teacher. it allows me to quickly and effectively inform my students of assignments. If students get a Twitter account, they will also be able to communicate back to me should any questions about one of my updates arise when they are away from school. Overall Twitter is an extremely effective communication tool for the classroom, allowing me to reach both parents and students in an easy, convenient manner.

Station 7: Do Unemployment Rates Affect Presidential Politics?

This assignment was an example of how to gather and analyze data using a detailed PDF. This assignment showed us the different Unemployment rates depending on the different year. This is a way for social studies students to analyze gathered data and do some critical thinking about it. An example of this is finding the Lowest unemployment rates and analyzing why that specific year was lower than others.
